In the heart of the high school campus, a new 22,185-SF three-court gymnasium with lobby, restrooms, and storage areas replaces the existing two-court gymnasium. The new gym seats 1,500 people on telescoping bleachers on either side of a central CIF-ready competition court. When the bleachers are retracted, the school can use three full basketball courts at the same time.
The most difficult tasks for our team were resolving the fire separation requirements brought on by changes in the building code and fitting the newly expanded gym into a constrained, nearly impossible, reclaimed space. With the help of Chaffey Joint Union High School District, Tilden-Coil Constructors, DSA, our consultants, and GOAI's modest efforts, we were able to accomplish our goals.
